Good afternoon everyone,
What a wonderful assembly we enjoyed from Room 14 and Mr Thurston this week! They taught the whole school some Auslan and very cleverly conducted the entire assembly using Auslan. A definite highlight was surprising Mr Jones with a very funny joke—lots of laughs all around!

It’s been a great start to Term 2. Students have returned focused and ready for learning. As you know, we teach and model our school values through our CORE values: Care, Organise, Respect, and Engage. Miss Moody conducts the Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) assembly each week on Tuesday morning at 8.50am.
This term, our focus is on Organise. We’re continuing to emphasise the importance of being on time for school and returning promptly from breaks throughout the day. Being on time:
- Helps students be organised and ready for learning
- Ensures they don’t miss important instructions
- Shows respect for teachers and classmates
- Supports a smooth and settled classroom environment.
You can help reinforcing this key message at home and ensuring that your child/children arrive on time for school.
This week, our Year 6 students returned from camp full of excitement and stories. They reported having an amazing time, with highlights including the flying fox, the delicious food, and spending time with their friends.
I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff who attended camp. Taking students away involves a great deal of planning and responsibility, and we are sincerely grateful for the time and care they gave—especially as it meant time away from their own families.
A reminder that next Friday, 16 May is a School Development Day for staff. There is no school for students on this day.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!
Warm regards,
Kim Knowles
Principal
Student Councillors
Please read on for the messages delivered at assembly this morning by our Student Councillors:
Lance: Hello, and welcome to the new term! We have lots of exciting things to look forward to, and I hope everyone is ready for the upcoming weeks. To start the term with some fun, the Year 6’s had an exhilarating time at camp at Point Walter! We’d like to thank all the teachers who organised and accompanied us, as well as the Year 5’s who volunteered to take on the jobs of the leaders.
Johan: Last Thursday, we had a special visitor from Kent Street High School who came to speak with the Year 5 and 6 students about moving on to high school next year. She shared a lot of information about attending Kent Street and preparing for the transition.
Also happening today, a few selected Year 5 and 6 students will be competing in the Math Olympiad. We wish them the best of luck!
Mujtuba: In Week 4, the whole school will be participating in the National Simultaneous Storytime. This will be a great experience to hear an amazing story read to us by the author. This year, the book is The Truck Cat, and we ask that everyone is respectful while listening to the story.
Kavithma: Next Wednesday, the West Oz Wildlife team will be visiting to show us all the amazing wildlife that lives here in Australia. This will be an exciting and intriguing Science experience for students from Kindy to Year 6. We hope that everyone will behave well and represent our school in a positive light.
Cultural Ambassadors
We also heard from our Cultural Ambassadors, Evee and Sophia, about some important events coming up this term:
Sofia: Boy’s Day, also known as Children’s Day, is celebrated in Japan on May 5, historically a day to celebrate boys and their future, wishing them success and luck.
WA Day is the day to commemorate the founding of the Swan River Colony in 1829 and to celebrate all things Western Australian, recognising the state’s diverse history, culture, and the people who call it home.
Evee: We also have National Sorry Day which is held on 26 May, it is a day of commemoration for the Stolen Generations, who were forcibly removed from their families and communities.
On the 27 May to the 3 June we have National Reconciliation Week, the theme will be ‘Bringing Now to Next’. Reconciliation Week is to reflect on the shared history, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal, Torres Strait islanders and non-indigenous Australians.
