Book Week Parade

What a fantastic morning we had for our Book Week Parade!

Thank you to all our students, staff and families for making this such a fun and memorable event. There was an incredible amount of creativity and effort on display, and it was wonderful to see so many favourite book characters come to life.

Events such as Book Week are a lovely reminder of what makes our school community so special. Thank you to our families for helping with costumes, to our staff for joining in the fun, and most importantly, to our students for bringing so much enthusiasm and excitement to the morning.

Our Book Week Parade is certainly one of those community events that we look forward to every year!

Centre for Excellence in the Explicit Teaching of Literacy

We are very pleased to share that East Victoria Park Primary School has been accepted into the Centre for Excellence in the Explicit Teaching of Literacy program.

The program provides schools with the opportunity to work alongside expert educators to further strengthen evidence-based literacy teaching. Participating staff will engage in professional learning, observe high-quality teaching practice, work with experienced literacy educators and bring this learning back to our school.

Luke Cutler, Elizabeth Lees and Grace Allan, together with Kim Knowles, will participate in the program on behalf of East Victoria Park Primary School.

Importantly, this is not just professional learning for four staff members. Our aim is to scale up and share the learning across the school, building the knowledge and capability of all staff and continuing to strengthen the consistency and quality of literacy instruction for our students.

We are very excited to have been selected for this opportunity and look forward to sharing our learning with our staff and school community as the program progresses.

After School in the Early Childhood Area

Our Early Childhood area is a lovely place for families to spend some time together at the end of the school day, and we are very happy for families to continue enjoying the space.

We do ask that parents and carers continue to support children to follow the same expectations after school that apply during the school day. In particular, a maximum of three children are permitted on the swing at any one time. This helps ensure everyone can enjoy the equipment safely.

Please also be mindful that while the school day may have finished for students, our teachers are often still working in their classrooms, preparing for the following day, attending meetings or completing other work. We ask families to be considerate of noise levels around classrooms and to continue supervising children while using the Early Childhood area.

Thank you for helping us keep this space safe and enjoyable for everyone.

We are now looking forward to our Faction Athletics Carnival on Thursday 3 September. Don’t forget to order your sausage sizzle, and if you are able to lend a hand on the day, please consider signing up as a volunteer – our P&C needs you!

Details on how to order your sausage sizzle and register as a volunteer are included further on in this newsletter. We look forward to another fantastic school community event!

Have a lovely weekend as we reach the halfway mark of the term!

Kind regards
Kim Knowles

Anthology Project

Room Eight had their first visit from Kristy Nita Brown, award-winning local children’s book author, last Monday morning to introduce ‘The Anthology Project’ – a creative learning residency going for approximately 14 weeks.
Our students will work with Kristy for 2 sessions a week to create, publish, and exhibit their work as part of a class anthology exploring the stories, people, places and culture of East Victoria Park.
Students will meet and learn from local artists, historians and community members, discovering more about the area’s history, art, culture and community. They will also take part in a walking tour to explore local street art, public art, and contemporary stories.
Students will use what they discover to create their own stories, poems, illustrations and other creative works, celebrating the place in which they live and learn.
At the conclusion of the project, they will celebrate at the Town of Victoria Park Library.
(With thanks to Kristy for the above summary)
Looking forward to seeing what our students can come up with!
Sincere regards
Mr Young.
