Thank you to Room 5 and Miss Brown for an awesome presentation at assembly this morning. We learnt so much about the use of colour, layering techniques, the colour wheel and so much more as well as the important artists who have inspired the students’ work.
It was hard to believe that the students speaking so confidently at assembly this morning are only in Years 2 and 3! Congratulations on the wonderful way you shared your learning in front of the whole school. I am incredibly proud of all that you have achieved with Miss Brown this year. Well done, Room 5!

Talk for Writing: Building Confident Writers
Over the past four years, we have taken a staged approach to implementing Talk for Writing across our school. We are proud to share that the program has now been fully rolled out from Kindergarten to Year 6, providing a consistent and connected approach to the teaching of writing across all year levels.
Talk for Writing is an engaging, evidence-informed approach that helps students develop their writing skills by first learning to say and understand the language and structure of different types of texts before applying these skills to their own writing.
The impact of this whole-school approach is evident in the growing confidence, vocabulary and independence of our students as writers. We are also seeing positive improvements in student writing performance across the school, reflecting the benefits of a consistent approach that builds knowledge and skills from kindergarten through to Year 6.
We are excited to see our students continue to grow as confident, capable and enthusiastic writers.
Please ask your child/children to share with you what they have been doing in writing.
Celebrating Our 2026 NAPLAN Results
We are very pleased with the progress shown in our 2026 NAPLAN results. Our Year 3 and Year 5 students have made positive gains in a number of areas.
We are particularly proud of our Year 3 results, which compare favourably with like schools—schools with students and communities similar to ours. Performing at this level is an important goal for our school, and these results show encouraging progress towards the high expectations we have for our students. Our Year 3 students also showed improvement in Writing and Spelling, while Year 5 students made strong progress in Reading and Spelling.
NAPLAN is just one way we measure student learning, but it provides valuable information about how our students are progressing. These results reflect the hard work of our students and staff and the positive impact of our whole-school teaching approaches. We will continue to build on this progress and support every child to grow, learn and achieve their best.
Parent Feedback in Action – Parent-Teacher Interviews
At East Victoria Park Primary School, we greatly value the feedback we receive from our families. Through our recent School Community Survey and ongoing conversations, many parents shared that they would appreciate more opportunities to discuss their child’s learning and progress between the two formal semester reports.
In response to this feedback, we are pleased to introduce a Parent-Teacher Interview Day early in Term 4.
This change also reflects a new Department of Education initiative that allows public schools to hold up to two parent-teacher interview sessions each year during normal school hours (one per semester). The initiative recognises the importance of strong partnerships between home and school by providing dedicated time for teachers and families to discuss student progress. To facilitate these meetings, schools may temporarily close to students on these days, allowing teachers to meet with families throughout the school day.
Our first Parent-Teacher Interview Day will be held on Friday, 23 October. The timing of this session has been determined in consultation with our School Board, taking into consideration the needs of our students, families and staff. On this day, students will not attend school, allowing teachers to meet individually with families to:
- discuss your child’s progress since their Semester 1 Report
- review progress towards learning goals
- identify strengths and next steps for learning
- work together to support your child’s continued success.
A Compass notification will be sent closer to the date with information about the booking process and available interview times.
As this is a new Department of Education initiative, I will continue to work collaboratively with our School Board each year to determine the most suitable timing of these reporting sessions for our school community, while remaining within the Department’s reporting requirements.
Thank you for your ongoing feedback and support. We value our partnership with families and look forward to these additional opportunities to work together to support every child’s learning and wellbeing.

Austin: Good morning, everyone. At our Student Leadership Day last term, we were tasked with creating a school-based project related to the United Nations Sustainability Goals. We chose Goal 14 – Life Below Water. In SRC, we have decided to focus on life in the Swan River between the Boorloo and Matagarup Bridges down at Burswood. Over the course of the term, we will give you information about the wildlife, the plants, the health of the river and the importance of this area to Indigenous people. We are encouraging families to get down to the river and explore. More information will be shared soon.
Tyler: Good morning. I don’t know about you, but we’re already halfway through the year! As the Year 6s get closer to the end, we’re actually getting really close to another start. On Wednesday, some of the students in Year 6 got to learn about Kent Street Senior High School. For those of you going to Kent Street, I wanted to remind you that on the 26th of November, there will be a Year 6 Orientation Day from 9:00 am until 2:45 pm. Year 6 parents are also encouraged to enrol their child in high school before time runs out. Thank you, and have a great afternoon!

This morning at assembly, our Student Leader Shannan spoke about how lucky we are to have Mrs Knowles as our Principal and presented her with a beautiful bouquet of flowers on behalf of our school community.
We are incredibly fortunate to have a Principal who leads with kindness, dedication and genuine care for our students, staff and families. Mrs Knowles’ positive impact is felt every day, and we are so grateful for everything she does to make East Victoria Park Primary School such a wonderful place to learn and grow.
We would also like to wish two of our talented students the very best as they audition for the Massed Choir Festival! 🎶

The payment is to help eligible families with school costs like uniforms, stationery, books and excursions.
All Western Australian students with an active enrolment in a public school, non- government school, or registered for home education are eligible for:
- $150 for each Kindergarten or primary student
- $250 for each secondary student.You can submit a claim through the ServiceWA app, online form or paper form.
What you need
- WA Student Number (WASN) for each student (found on school reports, NAPLAN results or some SmartRiders).
- Student details (enrolled name, date of birth, school, year level).
- Bank account details.
- 100 points of ID (if not using ServiceWA).

VacSwim offers fun swimming lessons over the October and summer school holidays. It aims to give children across Western Australia the skills to stay safe and confident in the water.
Who can enrol
Children aged 5 to 17 years old across swimming stages 1 to 16. For specific stage information refer to our website.
One program per child
To ensure a fair and equitable opportunity for all children to enjoy VacSwim, enrolment is limited to one program per child. This means:
- one enrolment permitted for October programs
- one enrolment permitted for summer programs (December and January).
Families can register on a waitlist for additional programs if desired.

Have you ever wanted to try karate?
Karate Western Australia is inviting children and families from across Western Australia to take part in the FREE Statewide Come & Try Karate Day on Saturday, 22 August 2026.
Local karate clubs will be opening their doors to provide fun, beginner-friendly sessions for children who have never experienced karate before. No previous experience is required, and all sessions are conducted by qualified instructors in a safe and welcoming environment.
Karate is much more than kicking and punching. It helps children develop:
• Confidence and self-esteem
• Respect and discipline
• Coordination and fitness
• Focus and concentration
• Resilience and perseverance
• New friendships while having fun
