ySafe Incursion and Parent Workshop

A huge thank you to Mr Cutler for organising for ySafe to present to our students yesterday. Mr Cutler leads STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts Mathematics) across the school and is passionate about keeping our students safe in online environments.

The sessions provided students with an important overview of how to stay safe online and how to navigate the digital world responsibly. We are very grateful to our wonderful P&C, who contributed $2000 towards the cost of the incursion, which included the student presentations and a parent workshop.

I attended the parent workshop held in our school library last night and found the information extremely relevant and practical. The advice provided was clear, current and helpful for families trying to navigate the challenges of managing technology and online spaces with children.

As part of this partnership, our school community now has access to the Online Safety Hub. I strongly encourage parents to explore these resources, which provide practical guidance and strategies for supporting children online.

I have also included an article on creating a healthy screen routine at home, which families may find useful.

Supporting our children to use technology safely is an ongoing partnership between school and home, and resources such as these are invaluable in helping families navigate this complex and ever-changing space.

Please read on to hear the messages from our Student Councillors, shared in their own words at this morning’s assembly.

Tyler

Hi everyone! We’ve had a pretty busy last two weeks going through our Student Representative Council nominations. I’d like to thank everyone for running and having a go. It’s awesome to see your positive attitudes and Core Values shown through these nominations, and I look forward to coming around after the assembly to inform the students who have been shortlisted, as well as interviewing students sometime next week.

I hope everyone had a lovely long weekend and enjoyed an extra day off with the last taste of summer. Just as we thought it was going to be cooler with autumn arriving to give us a break, it’s still hot—so please remember to wear your hats and drink plenty of water. That’s all from me today, but to my footy fans, I hope you’re as excited as I am with the AFL season starting up and everyone getting behind their teams. Let’s go Tigers! Enjoy your weekend

Phoebe

Thank you to Mr Cutler for organising the Y Safety incursion for the school. I learnt what to do if a friend is being bullied online and how to handle it. I hope you all learnt something new about how to be safe online while still having just as much fun.
NAPLAN is coming up next week on Wednesday for the Year 3s and 5s. Please make sure to be very quiet when walking around the school so you don’t disturb the classrooms doing tests.

Fatima

It’s a festive time of the year, with Saint Patrick’s Day just around the corner. Look out for all the cheeky little leprechauns hiding around Perth! We are also in the middle of Ramadan; Easter is in a few weeks; and there have been so many New Year celebrations—Chinese Lunar New Year and Bhutanese last month, and Hindi New Year coming up.
On Wednesday, we started auditions for the Harmony Week lunchtime performances. These performances will be held in Week 7 on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday during eating time. Auditions will be held again next Wednesday lunchtime, so if you are interested, please sign up outside Rooms 9 and 10. On Friday the 20th of March, it’s Cultural Dress-up Day. Please wear cultural clothing or orange.
Thanks to Mrs Motherwell and Mr Young for helping us with the auditions, and we hope to see more acts next week.

Austin

Good morning EVPPS. Coming up on Friday the 20th of March is Ride Your Bike to School Day. If you have a bike, make sure you bring it, because this day will have lots of fun activities. Even if you don’t have a bike, you can always bring your scooter for just as much fun as everyone else.
If riding a bike is an option for you, make sure you do, because you can decorate your bike and chat with your friends about how much cooler your bike looks. Make sure you grab some breakfast outside the office as well.
Thank you for listening to our speeches.
