The lease agreement for our of school hours club (OSH Club) is expiring at the end of the year and we are currently advertising an Expression of Interest for service providers for the 2025 school year and beyond. As we have had the same service provider for some time now it is time to test the market and see if the current service can be improved upon. If you are interested in being part of the selection process for the new lease agreement, please call me at the school to discuss. We are looking to have representation from the P&C as part of the selection process – you don’t have to be a current member of the P&C to be part of this. I think it is important to have parent input into this every important service that is offered to our school community.

School Development Day

Staff worked together on Monday, progressing their school planning. We looked at:

  • Staff Health and Wellbeing – when staff have good health and wellbeing it means that they are in a much better place to ensure that we are taking care of student Health and wellbeing.
  • Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Program – the Mental Health and Wellbeing working group, consisting of Tristan Jones, Deb Gestorfer, Serena Whisson, Eloise Moody, Petra Hess, and Kim Knowles have been researching an evidence based SEL program to introduce to the school community. We have started to look at the Friendly Schools program, which we will begin implementing in 2025.
  • Communication Guidelines – we looked at both internal and external communication guidelines. The external communication guidelines will go to the School Board for endorsement and once that happens, they will sit on the school website and be part the enrolment pack for all new families.
  • To round out the afternoon staff participated in Module 3 of Support for Students with Diverse Learning Needs – Autism Spectrum Disorder: Understanding and Supporting Behaviour at School.

Have a great weekend.

Please read on for messages delivered by the student councillors at assembly this morning:

Hello everyone, next week is our Faction Carnival! The children will be competing in various events including races, tunnel ball, leader ball, pass ball, flag race, sack race, and the egg and spoon race. A note with a QR code was sent home with each child for purchasing a sausage. There will also be a cake stall and a raffle. Remember to cheer on your factions and good luck to all the participants!

Jess

Good morning, everyone! I hope you had a wonderful long weekend. As you may already know from the notes sent home, we have the Percussion Kaboom incursion coming up on the 5th of September. We’ll be participating in a performance using percussion instruments made from reused and recycled materials. Please remember to be respectful and kind throughout the event. I hope you all have a great time!

Annabelle

Good morning, everyone! I hope you all enjoyed the Book Week parade yesterday. For the parents who missed it, everyone paraded right here and proudly showed off their wonderful costumes! The Year 6 students had the special privilege of going twice since it’s their final Book Week. I hope everyone had a great time at the parade. Remember, any book you’ve read can be logged on the Premier’s Reading Challenge, and it’s not too late to sign up if you haven’t already!

Zane

Good morning, everyone. On Wednesday, the Year 3-6 students walked to Victoria Park Library for Book Week, where illustrator Allison Mutton shared her journey through illustrations. The students had the chance to expand their imaginations by creating characters by combining animals, all inspired by this year’s Book Week theme, “Reading is Magic.” It was a fantastic experience, and a big thanks to Allison Mutton for guiding us through it!

Room 6 Mini Olympics

Over the past two weeks, Room 6 has been busy participating in their very own Mini Olympics. The class took part in a variety of fun events, including quizzes, running, throwing, writing similes, and more! It was wonderful to see every team working hard, cheering each other on, and giving their best effort. In the end, the top three teams were awarded medals for their achievements. Great job Room 6, hope you enjoyed the event!

Science Week

It was Science Week from 12th to the 16th August and this year we invited Australian Earth Science Education to our school to conduct workshops with our students.  This was a free, engaging incursion.

  • Rooms 3 and 4 looked at ‘The Story of Rock’ investigating rock formations and rocks as resources.
  • Rooms 5 and 6 engaged in ‘Fake a Fossil’ making their own fossil and learning about their formation and how they inform scientists.
  • Rooms 12 and 13 investigated ‘What’s in a Soil?’ involving soil science, solving agricultural problems and the scientific method.

Thanks to AusEarthEd and their supporters for an exciting incursion.

Chess Club

We have started up a Wednesday chess club, playing in the library at lunchtime. I have been extremely impressed by the enthusiasm and level of skill shown by students like Zane, who defeated me very handily in a pickup game a couple of weeks back. I have reached out to a couple of our neighbouring schools and very much hope to organise an opportunity for our chess-players (Year Sixes in particular) to pit their skills against students from other schools. Fingers crossed!

This week’s games (Bold = winner):

Year Five/Six:

Karma v Jonty; Freya v Lily; Daniel v Lucas; Reyan drew with Austin; Zane and Uudam continuing their game next week.

Year Three/Four:

Nate v Yaqub; Aisha v Charlotte; Riley v Tyler.

Mathematics Problem of the Week:

On the planet Vuv there are two sorts of creatures. The Zios have 3 legs and the Zepts have 7 legs.

The great planetary explorer Nico, who first discovered the planet, saw a crowd of Zios and Zepts. He managed to see that there was more than one of each kind of creature before they saw him. Suddenly they all rolled over onto their backs and put their legs in the air.

He counted 52 legs. How many Zios and how many Zepts were there?
Do you think there are any different answers?
