Good afternoon parents and carers

Welcome Back to the New School Year

I am very excited to welcome you back for the 2026 school year. I’d like to extend a very warm welcome to our new families, joining us for the first time. Our school is proudly diverse with families from over 55 cultural backgrounds with more than 60% of our students with a language background other than English. It is such a welcoming and friendly school community, and I am sure you will enjoy your time with us.

We have had a fantastic start to the school year, and I would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who has helped make this happen.

A massive thank you to our cleaning staff—the school has never looked better. To our gardeners, your ongoing work continues to improve our site, and the grounds are looking wonderful as we begin the year. To our office staff, the behind-the-scenes work at the end of last year and in the early weeks of this year has been outstanding and so greatly appreciated.

I would also like to acknowledge our teachers and education assistants for their incredible preparation and for creating such welcoming classrooms for our students.

Most importantly, thank you to our families for being so organised with uniforms and booklists. There is so much that happens at home to ensure a smooth and positive start to the year, and your support makes a significant difference.

We are looking forward to another great year of learning together.

We welcome Ms Leah Molloy to our staff as our Physical Education specialist for Term 1.

Continuing Our Focus on High Standards in 2026

In 2026, we will continue to reinforce two important whole-school expectations that support student learning and success:

  • Being on time
Arriving at school and class on time ensures students are settled, ready to learn, and able to fully engage from the beginning of lessons. Punctuality builds responsibility, routine and respect for learning time.
  • Neat and tidy bookwork
Well-presented work helps students organise their thinking, respond effectively to feedback, and take pride in their learning. It also supports the development of strong learning habits as academic expectations increase.

These expectations are central to establishing high standards and high expectations across our school. By consistently reinforcing them, we help students develop skills and attitudes that support both academic success and lifelong learning.

We appreciate the ongoing support of families in reinforcing these expectations at home and at school.

Parking and Site Safety

The Department of Education is currently undertaking a parking feasibility study to investigate how access and safety can be improved across our school site. Parking continues to be an ongoing challenge, and the cooperation of our whole school community is essential.

We ask all families to show care and consideration for others, including our neighbours. Unfortunately, we have already received several complaints this year regarding vehicles parking in private driveways—please do not park in or across driveways at any time.

For safety reasons:

  • Under no circumstances are vehicles to double park in the Mint Street car park.
This has resulted in staff being unable to leave the site during the day and after school.
  • The Beatty Avenue staff car park is not to be used for primary school drop-off or pick-up.
This area is strictly reserved for staff parking and Education Support Centre drop-off and pick-up only.

To help ease congestion and keep everyone safe, we encourage families to consider the following:

  • Plan to arrive a little earlier and park further away, allowing time to walk in.
  • Carpool with other families where possible to reduce the number of vehicles on site.
  • Encourage students who are able to walk or ride in a safe and supervised manner.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work together to keep our school community safe and respectful.

Compass

We are now a fully Compass school. We are no longer using Seesaw. If you are having any issues with using Compass please call and see our office staff who will happily answer any queries.

So far we have sent out information about the upcoming Ysafe Incursion, Running Club for Year 4 – 6 and shortly we will be sending out information about Junior and Senior Choir to Year 2 – 6 student families.

New Shade Sails

The new shade sails over our Year 1 and 2 Adventure Playground were fitted this week. This was an election commitment funded program and we are very grateful to have such a safe and welcoming area for our students to play in.

Have a great weekend
