Newsletter 7th March 2025

Dear Parents and Carers

Thank you to the Student Representative Council for presenting today’s assembly. We have some interesting future faction names to consider.

I continue to be impressed by the high standard of work being presented by our students at the start of this academic year. There has been a noticeable difference in students getting to school on time and ready to commence lessons at 8.50am. Punctuality is a key factor in maximising the school day. Being on time not only ensures that students start their day smoothly but also significantly impacts their overall academic performance, social development, and future work habits.

I include for families some practical tips for ensuring that your children arrive to school on time:

Practical Tips for Ensuring Punctuality

Establish a Routine

Create a consistent morning routine that allows sufficient time for all necessary tasks. This includes waking up at the same time every day, having a set breakfast time, and preparing school materials the night before.

Prepare the Night Before

Encourage children to pack their school bags, lay out their clothes, and ensure all homework and assignments are completed before going to bed. This reduces morning rush and ensures a smoother start to the day.

Set a Realistic Bedtime

Adequate sleep is crucial for punctuality. Ensure that children go to bed early enough to get the recommended amount of sleep for their age group. This helps them wake up feeling refreshed and ready for the day.

Use Timers and Alarms

Set multiple alarms or timers to keep the morning on track. This can help remind children of the time and keep them focused on getting ready without unnecessary delays.

Lead by Example

Parents and carers should model punctuality in their daily lives. Demonstrating the importance of being on time for appointments, work, and other commitments reinforces the value of punctuality for children.

Week 5 Assembly

Thank you to the wonderful Year 6 School Councillors for hosting this week’s assembly. Even though you have only been in your roles for five weeks, you have clearly demonstrated you truly are leaders. We also had a presentation from our Year 3 – 6 Councillors, outlining the selections for new Noongar Faction names as well as animals and plants to be voted on by our students and staff in the coming weeks. We appreciate all the hard work and effort you have put into this, and we can’t wait to hear the results. Congratulations to all our students who received merit certificates, PBS medallions and Literacy Pro certificates today. It’s exciting to see and celebrate all the hard work our students are doing. Congratulations also go to our Running Club, who managed to set a school record by running a distance today of 126 km! Fantastic effort by all.

Congratulations to Todays Merit Award winners:

Student Councillor Announcements

Please read on for the messages delivered at the assembly today, by our student councillors:

Johan: Hi everyone, can you believe that it’s already week 5? Time flies by when you’re having fun! On the note of learning, years 3 and 5 are going to be completing their NAPLAN test. Please be more considerate than usual to be quiet in both the junior and senior block. Thank you!

Kavithma: As we all know, the Circus Challenge came round to our school where Mr. Circus displayed breathtaking, cool tricks with the help from our students as well. Everyone took part in the circus workshop where each class got to do some of their own tricks with the help of Mr. Circus.

Lance: We have managed to create an invention to help improve the school. The student councillors are planning to introduce a suggestion box, so that students and carers can give ideas to help the school. We hope that everyone can create improvements across the school grounds. It is expected to come soon, and we look forward to putting the suggestions in action!

Mujtuba: Next week, we have a soccer coach coming to teach us new skills. Speaking of sports, we have a new carnival named EVPPS Mission Possible Carnival to replace the Interschool Summer Carnival. Our year 5s and 6s will be taking part in the new carnival, and years 4s from Room 7 will be helping us out. It is scheduled for Thursday 3April. Parents are most welcome to attend and cheer our competitors on. Thank you for listening.

I love seeing families staying after school to enjoy the playgrounds—it’s a wonderful social time for both children and parents. However, I kindly ask that all families leave the school grounds by 4:00pm. Our cleaners need to access and clean the junior toilets in the afternoon, and once finished, they will be locked. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!

Have a great weekend and I would like to extend to those families in our school community celebrating Ramadan a peaceful and happy Ramadan. Ramadan Mubarak!

Kind regards

Classroom Parent Representatives Programme

We are excited to be continuing the successful Classroom Parent Representatives Programme this Year. We had some very positive feedback from the parents involved last year:

“It allowed me to engage with parents that I wouldn’t normally engage with.”

It was a positive experience “getting to liaise with the teacher and parents & serving as a communication link”

“Makes it easy to meet new parents” and connect with the community”

Each class will have a Parent Representative to help foster positive communication between teachers, parents and students.

A Classroom Parent Representative’s role includes

  • Being a point of contact for new parents/carers and welcoming new parents/carers to the class/school.
  • Enlisting the help of parents at school events.
  • Organising social events for parents and children of the class.

If you are interested in this role for your child’s class, please contact the classroom teacher or Deb Gerstorfer on Monday and Tuesday in Room 2 or email deborah.gerstorfer@education.wa.edu.au
