Newsletter 21st February 2025

Dear Parents and Carers

I would like to thank everyone for a smooth start to our school year. Students and staff have settled well into their new classes and the learning happening across the school is great to see. Thank you for continuing to work with us to have your children at school on time and ready to learn.

Organise – Be on Time

Classrooms open at 8:30 AM, and the first lesson begins at 8:50 AM. Students can use this time to prepare for the day by following their teacher’s morning routine.

We ask for your assistance to facilitate this by informing you of the following:

🔹 Parents are kindly asked to exit classrooms by 8:50 AM.

🔹 The school gates (near Kindy ECE 2, administration and the bike enclosure) will be locked at 8:55 AM.

🔹 Late arrivals are report to the office for a late note before entering the school and going to their classroom via the senior courtyard door in administration.

Why Being on Time Matters:

✔ Maximises Learning Time – No missed instructions.

✔ Builds Good Habits – Teaches responsibility.

✔ Reduces Disruptions – Keeps lessons smooth.

✔ Boosts Confidence – Helps students feel prepared.

✔ Encourages Respect – Shows courtesy to teachers and classmates.

✔ Improves Academic Performance – Leads to better engagement.

✔ Strengthens Friendships – Helps students settle in and socialise.

Thank you for your support in making EVPPS a great place to learn and grow. We look forward to working with you throughout 2025.

Year 6 Assembly

Thank you to our Year 6 classes for hosting this morning’s assembly. It was inspiring to hear all about the many different cultures we have in our school, and how well we all work together to share and influence each other to uphold our CORE values. Our Year 6 Cohort not only outlined ‘Who we are’ but also presented us with a variety of skits to show us how we can work together and make a difference. It is clear they put a lot of time and effort into their presentation, and it was appreciated by everyone. Well done and congratulations to the Year 6’s and to Ms Allan, Ms Cox and Ms Yee on a brilliant assembly.

Aspirations for my child, family and community 2025 Survey

During 2024 the school sent out the Community School Culture Survey and when analysing the results we found that parents wanted to be more involved with their child/children’s learning and to be able to share information with teachers about their aspirations for their children family and community. Examples of aspirations might include:

  • develop confidence in their learning and achievements,
  • to improve their reading comprehension,
  • to make friends and broaden their friendship group etc.

Your views are important to us, and we invite you to complete the survey at the link below. Your responses will be forwarded to you child/children’s classroom teacher. If you would prefer to share this information with your child’s teacher, I encourage you to make an a time to meet.

Year 3 and Year 5 students – NAPLAN Week 6 Term 1

In Week 6 of this term, our Year 3 and Year 5 students will participate in the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy – NAPLAN.

All students in Years 3 and 5 in primary schools across Australia do NAPLAN tests in March each year. NAPLAN tests students’ skills in reading, writing and maths, with the test questions presented in Standard Australian English dialect.

Students read some of the questions and listen to others with headphones. The tests will get easier or harder, depending on how students are going on the test. There are four different tests:

  • Writing
  • Reading
  • Conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation)
  • Numeracy

Students in Year 3 will do the Writing test using pencil and paper and will answer the other test questions on the computer.

Students in Year 5 will answer all their test questions on computers.

Teachers will help students get ready for NAPLAN tests using practice tests.

Schools will get their students’ results and give parents/carers a report showing their child’s results. Parents/carers can talk to the class teacher about these results.

NAPLAN shows how students are going all over Australia. People who work in the Australian Government, state and territory education authorities and schools use NAPLAN results. The results let them see which schools are doing well and which schools might need help and resources.

Today we are sending home an ’Information for Parents and Carers’ brochure with all Year 3 and 5 students. Please read this brochure and talk to your teacher if you have any questions about your child doing the tests.

For more information on NAPLAN, you can also visit nap.edu.au.

Messages from our School Councillors

And finally here are the messages shared by our school councillors at today’s assembly:

Johan: Kaya, and welcome everybody, to the Year 6 Assembly. We hope you had a wonderful start to the new year. Let me introduce ourselves. We are Johan, Kavithma, Lance, and Mujtuba, and we are your School Councillors for 2025! On Wednesday, the Year 6 classes were given a once in a lifetime opportunity to inquire and ask questions to the cherished genius, Dr. Karl Kruszelnicki! It was an exciting experience, and we learnt some new interesting facts. I want to thank Mrs. Walters for arranging the meeting, and all the students who took part!

Lance: We are honoured to be your Student Councillors for our last year at EVP PS, and we hope to explore more opportunities for better learning and future adventures. As we dive into the new year, we want to help improve the environment and experience of the school. We have many ideas in mind that we would like to introduce, and we hope our ideas will help the school in a good way. We can’t wait to take on the role of School Councillor!

Kavithma: Yesterday, we hosted a sausage sizzle, and it was a blast! Lots of people attended and ate, and the parents attended meetings with the teachers, where the students showcased their splendid work. We would like to give out a big thank you to all the staff that had stayed to help with the sausage sizzle.  We hope everyone had fun and appreciated the food!

Mujtuba: Next week on Friday, 28 of February, we will be having a Pupil Free Day. Yay! Students gets a day off, so enjoy a day of relaxation, and stay in bed for as long as you like. We look forward to being your School Councillors for 2025!

Finally, I’d like to echo Kavithma’s words of thanks from this morning’s assembly. It was wonderful to see so many families join us for class meetings and the Welcome BBQ. A huge thank you to our dedicated staff for preparing for the meetings and staying late to cook and engage with families. Your efforts are truly appreciated and seeing our school community come together makes it all worthwhile.

Wishing you all a fantastic weekend!
