Dear Parents
It has just come to our attention that the following information was left out of last week’s newsletter. Please accept our sincerest apology for the oversight.
Harmony Week Long Table Lunch
Harmony Week 2025 started on Saturday 15 March and goes through to Friday 21 March, which is also the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. The theme for this year is ‘Everybody Belongs,’ and it would be hard to think of an Australian community that embodies this idea more than our own school community.
For example:
· 29% of our students were born overseas.
· 57% of our students have at least one parent born overseas.
· We have speakers of an amazing 51 different languages in our school!
It is a developing school tradition that we hold a long table lunch every second year at East Victoria Park Primary Schools, so that students and parents can partake of all the wonderful international cuisine that many community members aren’t lucky enough to enjoy regularly. This lunch is normally held on the Friday of Harmony Week, but this year, Harmony Week falls within the Islamic month of Ramadan so following community consultation we will be rescheduling the long-table lunch to Friday 4 April – so our whole community can enjoy it.
Classes will still be learning about and celebrating Harmony Week as usual.
We invite all students to either wear traditional cultural dress or orange clothing to school on Friday 4 April.
You will have received an invitation to the Long table Lunch last week. If this invitation hasn’t made its way home to you yet, please see your child’s classroom teacher.
