Assembly
Thank you to Ms Maunick-Sallie for a very multicultural welcome at today’s assembly. Congratulations to all our students who received merit certificates, PBS medallions and Literacy Pro certificates today. So many people are reading, and it is exciting to see and celebrate all the progress our students are making. Thank you also goes to our new Sustainability Team, who have volunteered their time to help keep our beautiful school clean and remind us to pick up our rubbish.
A huge ‘thank you’ and congratulations goes to Room 12 and Ms Brown for a brilliant and informative Harmony Week assembly. Your preparation and thoughtful skits provided us with perfect examples of how to help people feel welcome, and to remind us all that ‘everyone belongs’.

EVPPS Mission Possible Carnival: Year 5 and 6
Our school normally participates in the Interschool Summer Sports Carnival with our cluster schools. After many lengthy discussions over the past few years, we have decided not to participate in the carnival this year. There are many reasons for this decision, here are just a few….
*We are the only school that does not have Senior Sport in our weekly timetable as our classes have two lessons of PE per week. No Senior Sport means that there is no time to teach all five sports for the carnival, to observe students to select for teams, get the teams together to see how they work and most importantly provide training time for teams to refine their skills and tactics. This puts our students at a distinct disadvantage on the day and is the biggest reason for our decision.
*Only a select number of students can participate. This means that many of our exceptional sporting students cannot attend due to a cap on numbers for teams.
*It tends to be the same students that are selected for all carnivals since selection is based on ability.
This year we are going to provide a more inclusive and fun carnival for all Year 5 and 6 students to participate in, with different sports/activities that are not normally taught in our PE program. We want the day to be fun, inclusive and an opportunity for students to get excited about physical activity.
The students are aware of this change and have been very involved in the planning process with us. They have named the carnival, created team names, team colours and elected their own team captains. They are very excited about the team colours/themes
Carnival Name: EVPPS Mission Possible Carnival
Parents and family members of our Year 5 and 6 students are welcome to come along for the whole or part of the day. You can also choose whether to spectate or take part with your child in the sports/activities. We would love to see you all there!!
Thursday 3 April is the big day.
Student Councillor Announcements
Please read on for the announcements form our councillor’s made at today’s assembly.
Mujtuba (Harmony Day) – Good morning students and staff, today, we are celebrating the last day of Harmony Week. We are not bringing in food for the long table lunch today, as we are still in the phase of Ramadan. The long table lunch will be taking place on the 4th of April, the day after our new Mission Possible carnival, which we will be talking about later. More information about the multicultural lunch will come soon.
Lance (Hero Hunter Day) – On the 1st of April, we will be dressing up for Hero Hunter Day! Please feel free to wear your favourite superhero costumes and bring a gold coin for donations. This day is to raise funds for families with children suffering from childhood cancer and disorders, organised by the Hero Hunter Foundation. We will be glad to support these children, and you should also be glad to know that you are helping families in need! Thank you for your consideration.
Johan-Hello everybody, can you believe that it is already the end of week 7! With the sunny weather ending, it is the perfect time for our interschool swimming carnival. This carnival will be at Aqua Life, and we will be represented by our selected Year 4-6 students. If you are competing, please stand up. We wish you luck and hope that you can perform your best at the carnival.
Kavithma – As we all know, on the 3rd of April the Mission Possible Sports Carnival is on; our Year 5’s and 6’s will be participating in the Carnival and there are 5 teams competing.
Something very special has been done by one of our Year 6 students, and it is very important that we spread awareness for this. Please welcome Charlotte Bradshaw who has donated her hair to Kids for Cancer.
Charlotte – Hi, I’m Charlotte. A few weeks ago, I cut my hair short and donated five plaits to Sustainable Salons. Sustainable Salons is an organization that takes hair and sends it to wig makers who make wigs for sick children. If you ever decide to cut your hair short, I hope this inspires you to donate it!
Thank you, Charlotte, and thank you for listening.
Harmony Week: Long Table Lunch – Friday 4 April
Did you know?
- 29% of our students were born overseas.
- 57% of our students have at least one parent born overseas.
- We have speakers of an amazing 51 different languages in our school!
It is a developing school tradition that we hold a long table lunch every second year at East Victoria Park Primary School, so that students and parents can partake of all the wonderful international cuisine that many community members aren’t lucky enough to enjoy regularly. This lunch is normally held on the Friday of Harmony Week, but this year, Harmony Week falls within the Islamic month of Ramadan so following community consultation we have rescheduled the long-table lunch to Friday 4 April – so our whole community can enjoy it.
We invite all students to either wear traditional cultural dress or orange clothing to school on Friday 4 April.
You will have received an invitation to the Long Table Lunch last week. If this invitation hasn’t made its way home to you yet, please see your child’s classroom teacher.
