Dear Parents and Carers
What a wonderful concert we had last night. There were the lovely performances from our students and the awarding of book prizes to such worthy recipients. Again, I would like to thank Mrs Motherwell for the preparation of our students and Mr Jones for once again being our awesome ‘DJ Triton’.
Final Two Weeks
I am taking Long Service Leave for the final two weeks of term and Mrs Janette Tuttle will be the principal in my absence.
Please find below a copy of the speech I made at last night’s concert.
Welcome to our 2025 End of Year Celebration! What a wonderful evening we’re sharing together, celebrating the achievements and efforts of our vibrant school community.
First, a heartfelt thank you to Mrs. Motherwell for her incredible music program. Your dedication continues to enrich our students’ experiences, and we are so lucky to have you.
Congratulations to all the award recipients tonight—your hard work and dedication make you truly deserving of this recognition.
To the parents and carers, thank you for the invaluable lessons and guidance you provide every day. The partnership between home and school is critical, and your ongoing support means so much to us.
To our amazing students, thank you for showing up every day with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a commitment to our CORE values. It’s your energy and effort that inspire us all.
I’d like to acknowledge the School Board for their leadership and vision. Special thanks to our outgoing chairperson, Ms. Shannon Laya. Lucky for us Shannon has agreed to return as a community member next year. I’d also like to acknowledge two board members who are stepping down – thank you to Ms Lauren Garvey, after 8 years on the board and to Ms Shabnam Nasheri, for her 5 years of service – your contributions have been invaluable.
A huge thank you goes to Ms. Sarah Malacari and the phenomenal P&C team for organising memorable events like the Halloween Disco, the Scitech Family night and Sports Carnival sausage sizzle. Your contributions bring our community together.
This year, the P&C helped us achieve so much by raising more than $30, 000. Some of the highlights include:
- $10,000 for soccer goals – the second set is on order – arriving soon!
- $10,000 towards shade sails for the Year 1 and 2 playgrounds
- $1,000 towards tonight’s awards.
- $1,000 for the Year 6 Graduation.
Families, your generosity allows us to enhance our students’ educational experience. Thank you!
Our gratitude also goes to the unsung heroes behind the scenes:
- Our cleaning and gardening staff, who ensure our spaces are always welcoming.
- The Education Assistants, Library Officer, and IT Officer, who support our students and teachers in countless ways.
- The front office team—Cara Maxwell, Sharon Moe, Seonaid Clough, Marisa Edwards, and Lynda Fenton—who keep everything running smoothly with their exceptional work.
To our Deputy Principals, Mrs. Janette Tuttle, Mrs. Louise Gray and Mrs Kylie Adams, your leadership and dedication are deeply appreciated.
And of course, to our teachers, thank you for wearing so many hats: educators, mentors, counsellors, and role models. You truly shape the future, and we’re so proud of your efforts.
As we wrap up the year, we bid farewell to:
- Mrs Annette Newman – moving to a school in Cloverdale
- Miss Sophie Bennett and Miss Elizabeth Bachleitner – finishing their short-term contracts with us
- Mr Ryan Hadland, moving to a school much closer to home
- Mr Martin Dovey, also moving to a school much closer to home
- Mrs Kelly Walker – also taking up an opportunity much closer to home
- And finally, Mrs Lynda Fenton- after 14 years at the school Mrs Fenton is retiring – we thank her for her many years of devoted service to our school community and wish her well in her new adventures.
In some great news, this year we renamed our factions. This came about with wide consultation of the student body, led by Miss Cox and the Student Representative Council. Students chose animals found in our local area and chose to use Noongyar names. red becomes karrak – the red-tailed cockatoo, gold becomes waalitj – named for the wedge tail eagle, Green becomes kaarda named for the goanna and Blue becomes kwila – the shark.
In more exciting news ex-student Seantelle Walsh will be working with our Student Representative Council tomorrow afternoon, to help design of our new faction t-shirts. These will be ready for the 2027 school year, however we will start using the new names from next year.
To the families moving on to high school or other adventures, we hope you leave with fond memories of your time at East Victoria Park Primary.
Finally, to everyone in our school community: thank you for a fantastic year. Wishing you all a joyful holiday season and a safe, exciting start to 2026. See you next year!
Have a great final two weeks of term and I wish you and your families a wonderful summer break.
Kind regards
Kim Knowles
