As the school year draws to a close and Christmas edges closer, it’s a good opportunity to pause and reflect. While we all have a lot to feel grateful about, some WA children and their families don’t have it so easy. Some families struggle to provide enough food for themselves and the thought of gift giving at Christmas is simply impossible. Our school has the chance to make a difference in the lives of West Australian children and adults who are disadvantaged this Christmas.
The Hawaiian Giving Box was developed in partnership with local charities Anglicare WA and Foodbank WA six years ago. In that time, the West Australian community has helped to donate an astounding 74,820 meals and 38,363 gifts.
We are asking people to give whatever they can to help support Western Australian families this Christmas. Items of canned or long-life food are perfect, as are gifts of art and craft supplies, toys, and gift cards. Alternatively a cash gift of just $5 can go a long way. It will provide 10 meals to people that otherwise might go without, or contribute to toys for local children in need.
We will be running the Hawaiian Giving Box appeal, collecting food and gift donations which will go to children’s charity Variety WA and Foodbank WA to give to people in need. By participating in this appeal, we also have the chance to win significant cash prizes for our school. For further information on the Giving Box appeal, visit:
Key Dates
- Monday 2nd December: collection commences
- Wednesday 18 December: pickup date
- This is when a Foodbank and Hawaiian representative will attend our school to collect our donations
- February 2020: all items will be weighed and counted and winners will be announced
Let’s try promote this great appeal as much as possible. As the saying goes, it is in giving that we receive.
