Newsletter 25 January 2024

Dear Parents and Carers

I am very excited to welcome you back for the 2024 school year. I’d like to extend a very warm welcome to our new families, joining us for the first time in 2024. Our school is proudly diverse with families from over 55 cultural backgrounds with more than 50% of our students with a language background other than English. It is such a welcoming and friendly school community, and I am sure you will enjoy your time with us.

We have several changes occurring this year, with the major change putting on an additional class, due to an increase in enrolments. This will be in Room 13 (Mr Cutler), formerly the Japanese and EALD room. Upgrades to this room include new flooring and air conditioning. This is a temporary arrangement as we are expecting to take delivery of a demountable classroom for the beginning of Semester 2. Our Japanese Languages teacher, Mr Pemberton, will conduct Japanese lessons in the library.

We extend a very warm welcome to Mr Paul Young to our staff. Mr Young will be teaching Year 2 in Room 3 and is very excited to be joining the team here at EVPPS.

Students in Years 1 and 2 will have two Physical Education (PE) lessons with Mrs Walker, with Year 3 to 6 having one lesson per week. Year 3 – 6 will have their second PE lesson on Wednesday afternoon, in a senior sport session from 2.10 – 3.00pm, with their classroom teachers, coordinated by Mrs Walker.

Due to the increase in our numbers, we have had to restructure some of the teaching roles with our Deputy Principals, Mrs Julie Brewer and Mrs Louise Gray taking on teaching roles. Mrs Brewer will be sharing Room 10 with Miss Hannah Cox and Mrs Gray will be sharing ECE 1 with Miss Meg Johns. Mrs Krieg, our English as an Additional Language Dialect (EALD) lead teacher will take on a part-time Health specialist role, in addition to her EALD role.

Basketball Court

Our long-awaited basketball is finally here. The plan is that temporary fencing will come down on Monday, with the court handed over to the school shortly thereafter. The line marking will take place in a month or so as it can’t be done in the current hot conditions we are experiencing. It is looking fantastic, and I am so excited for our students to have a new area to the playground to use. Unfortunately, the grass in some areas is under stress as during construction water was turned off periodically and contractors were unable to gain access to mow lawns. We anticipate these areas top make a full recovery once services are returned to full capacity.

Second Hand Uniform Shop

The second-hand uniform shop will be open on Monday 29 January 2024 from 8.30am to 9.30am. Say “hello” and grab a bargain before school goes back.

Save the date:

Thursday 15 February 2024: 5 – 6pm for our Welcome BBQ – this includes a sausage sizzle and class meetings with your children’s teachers.
