Garden Busy Bee

Garden Busy Bee – Saturday 28 March – 9:30am -12:30pm

We are holding a garden Busy Bee On the 28 March to create and renovate East Victoria Park Primary Schools Delicious Food Gardens.  We are very lucky to have secured $1000 worth of funding from the Woolworths Junior Landcare Grant to create a new vegetable garden. This will take place in the fenced dissuaded potting area near the Kindy classroom at the front of the school grounds.

Our Delicious Food Gardens was funded to turn this disused space into a productive vegetable garden, that can be used the whole school for planting and picking, preparing, and eating produce. The garden will consist of the existing planting bench which is large enough for a whole class use and two new raised large veggie beds will also be added to grow vegetables. Students will be involved in planning, planting and maintaining the gardens, and will be supported by their teachers and volunteers. Compost and worm castings will be able to be used in the garden. Students will be able to see science in action as worms break down their fruit and veggie scraps and turn it into nutrients for their garden. The project will provide a rejuvenated area for science, sustainability and healthy eating studies. It will also provide the opportunity for family engagement in the school.
