Dear Parents and Carers

National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. You can support and get to know your local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities through activities and events held across the country.

Today we celebrated NAIDOC with a wonderful assembly by Room 7. They presented some beautiful poetry using famous Aboriginal artists, politicians, anthropologists, and sports stars as their inspiration. We were also entertained by our very own dance mob, consisting of Lara, La-Shay, Joh-anne and Shanell. Thank you, girls for the effort and courage to share a part of your culture with the whole school community – we appreciate you and your families for being part of our NAIDOC celebrations today.

Metronet Works

Please be advised that Metronet have some planned works over the school holidays that will take place close to the school boundary, along the rail line fence. Risk assessments have been enacted and while there will be no encroachment on the school grounds, it will be close to the fence line. Spotters and riggers will be in place to ensure safety measures are followed. Please be aware of work taking place if you are visiting the school grounds on the school holidays.

Metronet have placed an exclusion zone between the school boundary fence and the abutment bordering the rail line. There will be no works taking place in the exclusion zone during school time, to ensure safety of our students.  Any work within the exclusion zone will be completed on the school holidays and Saturdays.

It is my pleasure to announce that Mrs. Brewer has been appointed as the Principal of Miling Primary School for Terms 3 and 4. Please join me in congratulating Mrs. Brewer on this exciting new role. Having been a part of EVPPS for 14 years, Mrs. Brewer has positively influenced many families. While the school community will deeply miss her, we are thrilled for her as she embarks on this new opportunity. Best wishes, Mrs. Brewer.

Additionally, we bid farewell to Miss Nalder, one of our Pre-Primary teachers, who is leaving to pursue other opportunities. We thank Miss Nalder for her contributions to the early childhood area over the past three years and wish her all the best in her future endeavours. I will inform the school community as soon as a new appointment is made.

We are pleased to welcome Miss Layne Davey, who has been appointed to a Year 1 role. Starting from Term 3, Miss Van Brakel will work three days a week, while Miss Davey will cover the other two days in Room 1. Welcome to EVPPS, Miss Davey.

Furthermore, we welcome Miss Elizabeth Wong, who will begin in Term 3 as the Kindy 2B teacher and the Tuesday teacher in ECE 1, working alongside Miss Johns. We are excited to have Miss Wong join the EVPPS team.

Students have worked hard this term and I was pleased with the progress shown in their semester one reports. After an eleven week term the students have certainly earned a holiday.

I look forward to seeing everyone back on the first day of term, Monday 15 July.

Kind regards

Kim Knowles

Education Minister’s Running Challenge

As a school we are promoting the Education Minister’s Running Challenge which starts on Monday 15th July (1st day of next term).

At East Victoria Park Primary we value physical activity and know that being active every day has many social, emotional, intellectual and health benefits for children. The challenge involves completing just 20 minutes of running, walking or wheeling per week to encourage students to create healthy habits. Adults can get involved too and show students that physical activity is a life-long journey.

Students that log their runs, walks, or wheels each week will be placed into a prize draw. Some of the weekly prizes include – Apple Airtags, Bluetooth speakers, Fitbits, and Mini Golf vouchers. Also, up to 4000 students that log their runs throughout the whole challenge will receive free entry into the Perth Running Festival Burswood Park 4km Dash on Sunday 6th October at Optus Stadium.

Registrations are now open. Just create an account for your child or for yourself through the following link  https://www.ministersrunningchallenge.wa.gov.au/home ready to start the challenge next term.

Let’s start encouraging daily healthy habits!

Assembly messages from our student councillors this morning

Can you believe it’s the end of the term already? I hope you all had a wonderful time yesterday for our reward day. I saw lots of crazy socks and I hope you all enjoyed watching a movie. I want to thank you all for working so hard to be organised this term. Lots of improvements have been made, from walking around the school quietly to not getting up when you’re eating. It’s clear that you all deserve the 2-week break! Happy holidays!

Jess

I would like to quickly give you a rundown on what is happening with the cross-country carnival. Sadly, cross-country was cancelled because of the harsh weather, but it has been rescheduled to Wednesday, 17th July. For those who make the top 5 for their year and gender, you will get to compete against other schools in the interschool cross-country carnival on Thursday, 25th of July, week 2. I wish you all the best of luck and have a good rest of your day. Thank you.

Interschool: Thursday, 25 July, week 2

What I’m about to say will probably blow your minds! Everyone knows the Premier’s Reading Challenge that is happening right now. So, I have something to ask. Who likes running? Well, you won’t believe what’s coming next, the education minister has made a RUNNING CHALLENGE! Don’t worry all readers, the reading challenge is still going, but whoever loves running can sign up for the Education Ministers running challenge too! The challenge involves completing only 20 minutes of running, walking, or wheeling per week! That means, if you run four minutes a day, that will be 20 minutes per week! Signing up is free, and if you log at least 20 minutes of running per week, you will be put into a draw that includes these following prizes:

  • Apple Airtags,
  • Bluetooth Speakers,
  • Fitbits,
  • Mini Golf vouchers and more!

This challenge goes for 9 weeks, and registrations are open now. The challenge starts on the Monday, 15th of July, which is the first day of term three. Mrs Walker will send the link home to your parents in seesaw, and it will also be in the newsletter. It will be so exciting to see how many people sign up next term! Who thinks this might be a challenge for them? Thank you for listening!

Zane

Term two was amazing, and I wish you all a wonderful holiday. Term 3 is sure to be amazing too, where we come back on Monday the 15 of July. Thank you for listening and I’ll see you next term!

Mr Young’s Maths Challenge

Mr Young loves all things maths and wants to share his love of maths with the school community. Have a go at these problems on the holidays and call into Room 3 after the break to let Mr Young know if you’ve solved the problem.
